 What
is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical hypnotherapy refers to the use of hypnosis as a means
of therapeutic intervention, or as a part of a larger therapeutic
programme. Hypnotic techniques administered by qualified professional
are used to assist with the alleviation of a problem or condition,
which has a psychological or psycho-physiological foundation. Treatment
is carried out in a clinical setting with the therapist acting as
a guide to moderate clients through a hypnotic state, which would
not normally be otherwise possible. The proficiency of the hypnotherapist
is fundamental for achieving a constructive change in the client's
life.
At Harley Clinical Hypnotherapy, our treatment programmes also
involve one-on-one counselling with the therapist, to discuss your
particular condition on a conscious level. This helps our clients
to rationalise their problem and/or behaviours for themselves so
you can take home a greater understanding of the roots of your difficulties.
Providing our clients both traditional counselling and hypnotherapy
offers significant therapeutic benefits and a comprehensive treatment
approach.
During hypnosis, clients enter a state of deep meditation in which
concentration dramatically increases, enabling them to be more receptive
to positive suggestion and therapy. The therapist then helps the
client to ascertain the psychological and/or emotional underpinnings
of their distress or the issue they wish to work out. Through the
use of skilful hypnotic techniques, the therapist then provides
the client with appropriate suggestions to help them meet their
particular needs. The therapist can help clients to directly resolve
those problems that may be psychosomatic (conditions with bodily
symptoms that are derived mentally) or stress-related in origin,
or they may work with a medical practitioner in a comprehensive
approach. The end goal is to achieve a clear and lasting change
to the client's health and lifestyle that will significantly improve
their quality of life.
Although the most cited examples of clinical hypnotherapy are for
its use in weight reduction and smoking cessation programmes, hypnotic
techniques can be used to assist clients with a range of problems
and difficulties. For a more complete list of conditions commonly
